WWE originally had a big stipulation planned for Rey Mysterio and Andrade at WrestleMania 35

Rey Mysterio and Andrade have been feuding for months and it seemed like they were building towards a singles match at WrestleMania.

On this week’s WWE SmackDown Live, it was announced that Rey Mysterio would challenge for Samoa Joe’s United States Championship at WrestleMania.

That is disappointing for the fans hoping to see Mysterio and Andrade on WWE’s biggest stage and it will be even more disappointing when you find out that there was a unique stipulation planned for them that has been scrapped.

As noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plan was for Andrade vs. Mysterio in a hair vs. mask match. Just like many other ideas, this one fell to the wayside for some reason.

There’s no word on why the idea was scrapped but one theory is that Vince McMahon did not want to see Andrade lose his hair. Mysterio is not going to lose the mask because he has merchandise out that touts him as the “Greatest Mask of All-Time.”
