WWE Originally Wanted Jacob Fatu To Use A Different Name

Jacob Fatu has only been in WWE for one week and has already made a noticeable impact on the company.

Fatu is the latest member of the Bloodline, as last Friday on SmackDown, he made the save for Solo Sikoa. He laid out the likes of Randy Orton, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, and Kevin Owens before hitting a splash off the top rope to send Rhodes through the announce table.

Fatu is the most recent wrestler to join WWE as of late after a run in MLW, where he was a top star. He finished up with the promotion in February at MLW SuperFight.

WWE has already filed a trademark for his nickname “Samoan Werewolf” and nearly called him Caesar Sikoa, a monicker now expected for Sol Sikoa since they also filed a trademark for it.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that “Caesar Sikoa was the first idea for Fatu’s name, but they made the call to keep his Jacob Fatu name, which is surprising since it’s his real name.”

When Vince McMahon was still in charge, he wanted full ownership of ring names so talent couldn’t use their real names or gimmick names to which they owned trademark rights, so WWE would make up a name for themselves. Under Triple H, that has been less apparent.
