It looks like Mickie James’ days in the ring are winding down.
The former WWE Women’s Champion has been out of action since early June due to a serious knee injury. In July, she hinted that a return to the ring was not a guarantee.
James is currently on a three-year contract but it looks like WWE wants her to continue with the company. She did commentary for this week’s WWE Main Event tapings and PWInsider reported that there was talk last week about having James transition into a backstage role as a producer.
James started her wrestling career on the independent scene in 1999. She joined TNA in 2003 and signed with Ohio Valley Wrestling (WWE’s developmental system) a year later before moving up to WWE’s main roster in 2005 for a storyline with Trish Stratus where she played the role of Trish’s stalker.
James left WWE in 2010 and worked on and off for TNA Wrestling before being called for a one-off match at NXT TakeOver: Toronto in 2016. Her match with Asuka led to her getting a contract offer for a full-time spot on WWE’s main roster.
Among her many titles with different promotions, she’s a 5-time WWE Women’s Champion and a 1-time WWE Divas Champion. She’s also a 3-time TNA Knockouts Champion.
