When Ric Flair announced that Drew McIntyre would be part of his team at the Crown Jewel pay-per-view, that segment was meant to be the start of a push for McIntyre.
There have been start-and-stop pushes with him before but apparently, the company is ready for him to become a main eventer.
"I expected that McIntyre would win because it's his first match back and I know they really want to get him going now where Ricochet is more of a long term project," Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio.
Meltzer said that the idea behind McIntyre vs. Ricochet was to get a really hot match. There is no word on what the exact plans are for McIntyre and Ricochet but it's clear that McIntyre is getting the bigger push right now.
It's no secret that Vince McMahon has been a fan of McIntyre since he returned to the company. Other people in WWE management agree with McMahon on needing to push McIntyre as a top singles star because they need more top heels on Raw.
It will be interesting to see how things are booked for the Team Hogan vs. Team Flair match at Crown Jewel. If the plan is to push McIntyre, then the most logical thing would be to have him win the match for his team.
At Crown Jewel, Team Flair will consist of Randy Orton as the team Captain, McIntyre, King Corbin, Bobby Lashley, and WWE Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. Hogan's team will be captained by Roman Reigns and will include Rusev, Shorty G, Ali, and Ricochet.
Since Ricochet and McIntyre will be in the match, this gives WWE the opportunity to continue their feud if that is the direction that they are going in.
