According to the updated cable listings on TVGuide.com and elsewhere, WWE Raw will be ending at 11 pm eastern. The change starts this Monday night. There will be no more overruns going forward, which would probably be seen as a positive thing by most fans. The show usually ends sometime around 11:10 to 11:15 but apparently USA Network didn’t feel like the extra time was needed, especially with the big ratings decline in the final hour.
The overrun started during the Monday Night Wars and the idea was to combat WCW programming. Oftentimes, WCW would run much longer than the allotted time specified in the program guide.
USA kept the Raw overrun because the final hour of the show was usually when the most people were watching but that has not been the case in recent years and the third hour has dropped down to it’s lowest numbers in Raw history during the last few weeks.
Vince McMahon has said in the past that his ideal show would be 90 minutes. The reason why Raw stays at 3 hours is because USA is paying a lot of money. Although ratings have declined, Raw is still USA’s highest rated show and it helps to keep USA as one of the top rated cable networks.
