It’s been said for several months now that WWE will be looking to make big splashes in free agency come January. Several top New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring Of Honor stars are set to hit the open market when their contracts with their respective promotions expire next year.
Recently, in an interview, Tetsuya Naito revealed that he turned down an offer from WWE this past summer. Per a report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Naito wasn’t the only NJPW star WWE offered a deal to. It turns out WWE also sought two more NJPW talents, who Meltzer was reluctant to name.
Meltzer said one of the names would be a “huge surprise,” while the other would be a great worker, however, Meltzer didn’t see them flourishing in WWE’s system. He did note that the stars, like many other Japanese talents, might not have any reservations about moving to the United States, however.
