WWE Reportedly Not Stopping Counterprogramming Of AEW

This coming Saturday marks a significant day for wrestling fans, with AEW presenting its biggest show of the year, All In Texas, while WWE runs three separate events. For those who believe this scheduling is a one-time occurrence, a new report suggests otherwise.

Report On WWE’s Future Counterprogramming Plans

The decision by WWE to schedule NXT Great American Bash, Saturday Night’s Main Event, and the all-women’s show, Evolution, over the same weekend as AEW All In has been a major topic of discussion. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez noted that fans should expect to see more of this competitive strategy from WWE in the future.

“I was told that if you think WWE learned something or maybe they decided [counterprogramming isn’t a good idea]… no, we’ve got more coming,” Alvarez said. “At any time, you’re gonna hear about the next WWE battle vs AEW, the next counterprogramming attempt. We’ll be hearing about that fairly soon.”

A Return To Head-To-Head Competition

This signals a potential return to the head-to-head competition that was common during the “Wednesday Night War” between AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT from 2019 to 2021. The strategy appears to be a core part of WWE’s approach under the TKO-led management. Looking ahead, the next likely point of conflict could be in early September. AEW traditionally runs its All Out pay-per-view on Labor Day weekend. This year, that same weekend will feature WWE’s Bash in Berlin premium live event from Germany, creating another weekend where fans may have to choose which product to watch live.
