John Cena’s final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event took place without the presence of Donald Trump, despite the former United States President being in the immediate vicinity. According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer’s Daily Update, WWE wanted Trump to be part of the event in Washington, D.C., but he declined the invitation.
“Neither Vince McMahon nor Donald Trump was at the show,” Meltzer reported. “They wanted Trump. He attended the Army vs. Navy football game not far away and could have made it to both, but his decision was not to come.”
Earlier speculation suggested that both Trump and McMahon might appear to honor Cena’s two-decade run, given their deep ties to the company’s history. Trump notably participated in The Battle of the Billionaires at WrestleMania 23, a storyline that remains one of the highest-grossing in WWE history. However, Fightful Select confirmed that neither man was ever expected backstage, and staff had not been told to prepare for their arrival.
“Vince McMahon and Donald Trump were not at the show, were not planned to be at the show, and as Fightful Select reported numerous times, nobody was told they would be there at the event,” the report stated.
Instead of attending the wrestling event at the Capital One Arena, Trump opted to attend the Army vs. Navy football game, which was held just blocks away. Cena’s career ended with an emotional loss, as he tapped out to GUNTHER in the main event.
