Following his World Heavyweight Championship loss to Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41, GUNTHER violently vented his frustrations at the WWE Raw commentary team. The former champion attacked Michael Cole and choked out Pat McAfee, prompting Raw General Manager Adam Pearce to address the situation last week.
Pearce announced that GUNTHER received an undisclosed fine and was suspended indefinitely for his unprofessional actions. However, reports quickly emerged suggesting the storyline suspension coincided with requested time off for the superstar.
Cory Hays on X first reported that GUNTHER sought time away. PWInsider.com noted that “the belief among those we spoke to in the company is his ‘suspension’ will be 2-3 weeks.” Gunther was also reportedly spotted in London during this period.
The relatively short timeframe aligns with the latest update from PWInsider, which stated GUNTHER is not expected back on WWE television until the Backlash premium live event. This timing fits perfectly with WWE’s announcement on Monday’s Raw as GUNTHER is officially scheduled to face McAfee in a grudge match at Backlash on Saturday, May 10th, marking his return to action.
