Sometime during the last 48 hours, a story spread online with the claim that Rey Mysterio signed a deal with WWE. The story making the rounds is false and he has not signed anything as of Thursday night. The talks between Mysterio and WWE are ongoing and things are said to be close in regards to money and the terms of his schedule so a deal could be reached at any moment but any reports claiming that he has signed are false. Furthermore, there are no plans for Mysterio to appear at SummerSlam but that could change if a deal is signed soon.
Many of you know this by now but Mysterio has been very open about his desire to work fewer dates because he wants to give more rest to his body and because he wants to spend more time at home with his family.
There are a couple of reasons why WWE wants Mysterio back. People in management saw how he moved at the Royal Rumble in January and the feeling was that the “old Rey” was back. His knees feel much better after getting stem cell injections. Also, WWE continues their push into Latin American markets and he is still a draw and someone they can send on the road to do media appearances. For years, they have been looking for their next Latin American Superstar but, for various reasons, it hasn’t worked out. Andrade “Cien” Almas might be that guy but it will take time and he eventually turns face and before WWE puts enough trust in him to become their top Latin American Superstar.
As of today, Mysterio still has every intention to work at the “All In” show on September 1st.
