The Wrestling Observer newsletter is reporting that the talks for WWE to purchase ROH are considered to be dead. That is coming from someone in WWE that has full knowledge of the particulars of how the negotiations were going. The talks started back in August around the time WWE was also having talks to buy TNA Wrestling. The idea would have been to add the ROH library on the WWE Network. In recent interviews, Joe Koff has tried to downplay the talks with WWE even though the news regarding the talks were confirmed by people in WWE and word had spread to other companies.
ROH is still talking with WWE about old content for use on the WWE Network but, as of press time, no deal has been reached. The original talks were for WWE to completely buy out the company and kill off their competition.
For the sake of the wrestling business, it’s probably better to have companies like ROH around and not under the WWE umbrella. A WWE buyout would have likely meant that some of the ROH talent would have been signed for NXT but many of them would have had to look for work elsewhere for work so many people are probably breathing a sign of relief.
