Earlier today, Roman Reigns announced that he would be returning to Monday Night Raw because he has some “unfinished business.”
However, WWE’s official Twitter account sent out a statement saying that Reigns would not be appearing on Raw due to his obligations as a SmackDown Live Superstar.
Obviously, this is an angle and Reigns is scheduled to appear on Raw. The decision was made a few days ago to have some SmackDown Live stars appear on Raw this Monday.
Vince McMahon is hoping that adding star power from SmackDown Live will help the ratings on Monday. Needless to say, many people in WWE were concerned about the pace of the ratings drop and it might get worse with marquee NBA Playoff games coming up.
WWE also realizes that they need to start the upward ratings trend as soon as possible in time for the Fall. WWE’s new deal with NBCUniversal and FOX kicks off this Fall and they declining ratings will not make the networks and stockholders happy.
Reigns and other SmackDown Live stars are expected to appear on Raw this Monday to build the Money In The Bank pay-per-view. That is why the SmackDown live event on Monday was postponed.
WWE officials have learned of Roman Reigns' desire to appear on Monday Night Raw, but as of now, and due to his obligations as a Smackdown Live Superstar, he will not be appearing on Monday Night Raw. https://t.co/4P0RNPmZB1
