WWE Scrapped Angle Involving The Miz From Last Week’s SmackDown

A late change was made to the rundown for the February 6 episode of WWE SmackDown. While the show featured a match between The Miz and Carmelo Hayes, a planned physical angle involving another superstar was reportedly removed from the broadcast at the last minute.

According to a report from WrestleVotes Radio, the original script included a segment where Ilja Dragunov would interfere in the bout. The angle made it into late drafts of the show but was ultimately cut before it could air.

“Another little one that we’ve learned for you guys is that we’ve learned that a segment was scrapped very late [on] last Friday night’s SmackDown that would have seen Ilja Dragunov attack The Miz during his match with Carmelo Hayes, continuing a path towards [a] potential Miz vs. Ilja matchup. We’re told the angle was included in the final draft of the show and ultimately pulled late into the live broadcast,” the report stated.

Future Plans

The report indicates that the intended purpose of the angle was to build toward a future match between The Miz and Dragunov. It is currently unclear if the segment has been completely scrapped or simply delayed for a future episode.

The Miz is currently in a storyline involving his pursuit of the wealth and status he believes he deserves, often leading to conflicts with various members of the roster. Dragunov, meanwhile, has been establishing himself on the blue brand since his return from injury.
