WWE Scrapped Big TLC Match From Saturday Night’s Main Event

The new Netflix docuseries “WWE: Unreal” continues to provide fascinating insights into the company’s creative process, with the latest revelation detailing a major triple threat TLC match that was originally planned for the Saturday Night’s Main Event special in January of this year.

Scrapped Plans For First-Ever SmackDown TLC Match

According to information revealed in the new docuseries, the original plan for the Saturday Night’s Main Event before the Royal Rumble was a massive Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match. The bout would have been a triple threat contest pitting three of SmackDown’s top tag teams against each other: The Motor City Machine Guns, The Street Profits, and #DIY. The match would have marked the first-ever ladder match.

A Different Path To The Royal Rumble

The planned TLC match would have been a major highlight on the final premium live event before the Royal Rumble, setting the tone for the road to WrestleMania. The three teams were the top contenders in the division at the time, and a high-stakes ladder match would have had significant implications for the tag team title picture.

While the TLC match was ultimately scrapped for unknown reasons, the teams involved remained central to the tag team division. The Street Profits would go on to have a memorable run as WWE Tag Team Champions, which was recently ended by The Wyatt Sicks. The Motor City Machine Guns and #DIY have also remained top contenders on the blue brand. The “WWE: Unreal” docuseries premieres today, July 29, on Netflix.
