A couple of weeks ago, a storyline began on WWE Friday Night SmackDown with Mustafa Ali telling fans that the only reason why fans boo him is because of his name.
"You people choose to cheer for Drew McIntyre," Ali said on the 10/29 episode of SmackDown. "You choose to root against me and the only reason you choose to root against me is because my name is Mustafa Ali!"
Ali noted today on Twitter that the storyline has been scrapped, apparently because it was too controversial. It's unclear if this was a call made by WWE management or FOX.
Ali tweeted, "a few weeks ago, I made a statement that some deemed controversial. my intentions were to bring a beautiful vision to life. unfortunately, for reasons beyond my control, I won't be able to make that vision a reality. but I can share with you what could have been."
Ali also included a video of what he planned to say on future episodes of SmackDown. In the video below starts by saying, "good evening America. Tonight I need to discuss something of the utmost importance to our great nation. Something that I have personally been striving for my entire life. And that is, acceptance."
Ali said that he has to prove that he belongs here even though he was born in the United States of America and he has been mindful of the clothes he wears to avoid people thinking he looks suspicious. Ali said in the video that he can't fix the problem in America but he will overcome and he plans on launching a campaign for a new America where it is "you" that looks suspicious and "you" who does not belong here.
