WWE SmackDown Live 9/20/16 results: Ambrose vs. Cena, Miz vs. Ziggler

Welcome to the WWE SmackDown Live pre-show, and we are live on the WWE Network. Scott Stanford, Booker T, Lita, and Jerry Lawler hype what we will see tonight, which is John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose and The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler. There will be a contract signing between Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss.

Welcome to SmackDown Live. There was a hype video package for Cena vs. Ambrose and Miz vs. Ziggler for the Intercontinental Title. SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan is in the ring for the contract signing between Bliss and Lynch for their Women’s Title match at No Mercy. Bryan told them to keep things civil. Bliss said that Lynch is a failure but is a lovable Superstars who never gets it. She vowed to beat Lynch at No Mercy because Lynch wasn’t born to be a winner but a loser. Lynch said that Bliss was right about her not being born to be a champion, but she was a born to live in a small town in Dublin. Lynch said that she wanted to be champion really bad, so she made her dreams come true. Lynch vows to rip Bliss’ head off and do it as a champion. Bliss slapped Lynch, then signed the contract then dumped the table on Lynch. Bliss left the ring, and Lynch chased her to the back. Lynch came back down to the ring and signed the contract.

-Commercial Break-

Bryan and The Miz are shown talking backstage. Miz said that he wanted Bryan to cancel his match with Ziggler tonight. Bryan agreed to cancel the match and his new contract. Bryan told him to look at his contract again. Bryan asked if they had a problem, Miz said no and the match is still on.

Tag Team Match: American Alpha vs. The Usos.

Gable and Jimmy started things off. Gable with a knee strike and then worked over the left knee of Jimmy. Gable tossed him to the floor and then back into the ring. Jimmy knocked him down and drop kicked Gable out of the ring.

-Commercial Break-

We’re back with The Usos in control of Gable. Moments later, Gable got the hot tag to Jordan, who hit a series of suplexes. The Usos cut him off with a superkick.

Winners: The Usos.

There was a backstage segment with Heath Slater and Rhyno. Slater was pitching ideas to get the fans behind them. The Usos walked in and teased attacking them.

-Commercial Break-

Singles Match: Apollo Crews vs. Baron Corbin.

They lock up, and Crews hit a belly-to-belly suplex for 2. Crews sent him to the floor and hit a series of clotheslines then sent him into the barricade. Corbin knocked him down and sent him into the ring post. Corbin hit End of Days for the event.

Winner: Corbin.

-Commercial Break-

There was a vignette with Curt Hawkins.

Nikki Bella and Naomi are shown talking in the back. They were interviewed about their match with Natalya and Carmella. Naomi said that it’s glow time on SmackDown Live. Bella said that she would get her revenge on Carmella.

Dolph Ziggler cuts a promo backstage about how he will give everything he has tonight against Miz to win the IC Title.

-Commercial Break-

Intercontinental Title Match: The Miz © vs. Dolph Ziggler.

Ziggler attacked him right out of the gate, and Miz ran from him. Ziggler tackled him in the ring and locked in a rear-naked choke. Miz got out of the ring again. Miz kicked him down to the ground and broke the ten count. Miz sent him into the barricade. Back in the ring, Miz hit a clothesline and went for the Skull Crushing Finale, but Ziggler blocked, and Miz sent him crashing down to the mat. Miz hit a series of kicks, but Ziggler followed up with a big strike. Ziggler went for a splash in the corner, but Miz moved and crashed into the turnbuckle. Miz locked in an arm submission, but Ziggler fought back. Miz knocked him down and went for a dive, but Ziggler caught him with a dropkick. Ziggler hit a spike DDT for 2. Ziggler went for a super kick, but Miz blocked and sent him to the floor.

-Commercial Break-

Ziggler went for a dive, but Miz caught him and hit a powerbomb for 2. Miz followed up with a big boot. Ziggler hit the fameasser for a near fall. Maryse was about to spray hairspray in the face of Ziggler, but the referee saw it and tossed Maryse to the back. Ziggler rolled him up, but Miz reversed and rolled him up. Ziggler hit the Zig Zag for 2. Miz tried to grab the title, but Ziggler caught him and sent him into the steel steps. Ziggler sent him into the ring, and Miz sprayed hairspray into the eyes of Ziggler while the referee wasn’t looking and then hit the Skull Crushing Finale for the win.

Winner: Miz.

-Commercial Break-

Singles Match: Erick Rowan vs. Randy Orton.

Orton went to attack Rowan, but he caught him and hit a power slam. Rowan with a series of right hands then put the boots to him in the corner. Rowan sent him to the floor and into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Orton caught him with a spring board DDT and then hit the RKO for the win.

Winner: Orton.

Post-match, the lights went out, and Rowan’s mask was left in the ring. Wyatt was clapping and said that the Viper strikes again. Wyatt said that Orton is just a man who can die at any moment, but he is a god that can never die.

Tag Team Match: Naomi and Nikki Bella vs. Carmella and Natalya.

Before the match even started, Carmella attacked Bella. Naomi clotheslines Natalya then checked on Bella. Carmella and Natalya walked to the back.

AJ Styles cut a promo about how he is the face that runs the place because he has already beaten Cena and Ambrose. Styles said that the champ is here.

-Commercial Break-

Singles Match: John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose.

They lock up, and Cena took him down by his head. Ambrose sent him into the ring post.

-Commercial Break-

We’re back with Ambrose hitting a knee strike to the gut of Cena. Ambrose hit a bulldog out of the corner. Cena tripped him and locked in the STF but Ambrose got the bottom rope. Ambrose sent him to the floor and hit an outside dive. Back in the ring, Cena caught him and hit an AA for 2. They exchange right hands in the middle of the ring. Cena went for the AA but Ambrose reverses and rolled him up for the win.

Winner: Ambrose.

Post-match, Styles walked down to the ring and kicked Ambrose in the head. Bryan walked out and said that Styles would defend the WWE Title against Ambrose next Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live. Ambrose hit Dirty Deeds to Styles to close the show.
