WWE SmackDown Live 9/6/16 results: Styles confronts Ambrose, Miz vs. Crews

Welcome to the WWE SmackDown Live pre-show, and we are live on the WWE Network. Scott Stanford, Booker T, Lita, and Jerry Lawler hype what we will see tonight, which is a confrontation between Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles. The panel talked about The Miz defending the Intercontinental Title against Dolph Ziggler at Backlash. Daniel Bryan will host a Women’s Championship forum on tonight’s show.

Welcome to SmackDown Live. Daniel Bryan is in the ring and hypes the SmackDown Women’s Championship match at Backlash. He books the six competitors in a six-woman tag team match tonight. He brings out all six women Superstars that will be competing this Sunday at Backlash. Becky Lynch walked out first and said that she thought Bryan would introduce Nikki Bella first. Bryan said that he brought out Lynch first because she was SmackDown’s first draft pick (woman pick). Bryan then plugged Total Bellas on the E! Network. Natalya walked out and said that the worst night of her life was the night of the WWE Draft was because she was supposed to reign over SmackDown but instead she has to look at Lynch every week. Lynch asked what happened to her. Alexa Bliss walked out and called them two complainers. Bella called Bryan a Bella trophy holder. Carmella walked out and introduced herself as someone always ready to go then bragged about beating down Nikki. They all started to argue. Natalya said that Lynch wants to turn them against each other then stared her down. Nikki and Naomi ran down to the ring to make things even. The heels backed down and got out of the ring.

We see Dean Ambrose at catering drinking coffee. This was a comedy segment.

-Commercial Break-

We see Stephanie McMahon and Bryan talking backstage. Shane thought the women’s tag team match would be explosive. The Miz walked up and said that he is just coming off vacation and defending the IC Title against Dolph Ziggler at Backlash. Miz said that Bryan just can’t get over what he said. Bryan said that Ziggler is willing to fight, and Miz didn’t so what does that make him? Bryan said that Miz has the match and if he doesn’t want to fight then he can hand over the title.

Singles Match: The Miz vs. Apollo Crews with Ziggler on commentary.

They lock up, and Miz beat him down in the corner. Crews pushed him off and hit a drop kick. Miz rolled to the floor. Crews went to the apron and hit a standing moonsault.

-Commercial Break-

We’re back with Miz in control of Crews. Miz hit a big boot in the corner and went to the top rope. Crews caught Miz and hit a suplex. Crews with a series of clotheslines, a drop kick and a splash in the corner. Miz slapped Ziggler then pushed Crews into Ziggler. Back in the ring, Miz hit Skull Crushing Finale for the win.

Winner: Miz.

Post-match, Ziggler held the IC Title hostage in the ring, so Maryse had to go in the ring and get it from Ziggler. Maryse and Miz then walked to the back.

AJ Styles cut a promo backstage about being left in the ring by Ambrose last week. Styles was embarrassed by the footage being shown again. Styles grabbed a producer and threatened to break his microphone.

-Commercial Break-

The Usos cut a promo backstage about becoming the SmackDown Live Champions and the line to the titles begins behind them.

Bray Wyatt cuts a promo backstage while in a rocking chair about Randy Orton. Wyatt said that the prey (Orton) tries to survive, and they have fear while the predator hunts and invokes fear.

Six-Woman Tag Team Match: Nikki Bella, Becky Lynch and Naomi vs. Carmella, Alexa Bliss and Natalya.

Naomi and Bliss started things off. Naomi hit a shoulder block and then Carmella was tagged in. Naomi took her down and locked in a face lock. Lynch was tagged in and worked over the left arm of Carmella. Lynch rolled her up for 2. Bella was tagged in but Carmella rolled out of the ring to regroup.

-Commercial Break-

Naomi and Bliss started things off. Naomi hit a shoulder block and then Carmella was tagged in. Naomi took her down and locked in a face lock. Lynch was tagged in and worked over the left arm of Carmella. Lynch rolled her up for 2. Bella was tagged in, but Carmella rolled out of the ring to regroup.

-Commercial Break-

We’re back with Natalya in control of Lynch. Lynch fought out of a headlock, but Natalya cut her off with a series of knee strikes. Natalya hit a suplex and then a clothesline for 2. Lynch rolled up Natalya for 2. Bliss was tagged in and missed an elbow drop. Bella was tagged in and hit Bliss with a series of clotheslines and then a drop kick. Bella hit a springboard kick for 2. Bella hit a power slam for a near fall on Carmella, but Bliss broke it up. Naomi hit a codebreaker to Natalya and Bliss tossed out Naomi. Bliss was taken out by Lynch. Carmella locked in her submission finisher for the win.

Winners: Carmella, Alexa Bliss, and Natalya

-Commercial Break-

Tag Team Title Tournament Match: The Usos vs. American Alpha.

The Usos jumped American Alpha right out of the gate. American Alpha fought back. Gable dumped Jey to the floor and then hit their tag team finisher on Jimmy for the win. Very quick match.

Winners: American Alpha.

Post-match, The Usos attacked American Alpha.

-Commercial Break-

Randy Orton cuts a backstage promo about facing Bray Wyatt at Backlash. Orton said that he would patiently wait to strike on Wyatt. Orton said that Wyatt wouldn’t know what hit him.

Fandango cut a promo in the ring about how Tyler Breeze is not here tonight so he found a woman to dance with. He started dancing with her. She told him that her hips were the truth and he can’t handle the truth. Kane walked out and choke slammed him.

-Commercial Break-

Tag Team Title Tournament Match: Hype Bros vs. Rhyno and Heath Slater.

Rawley took out Rhyno with a clothesline while Ryder took out Slater at ringside.

-Commercial Break-

We’re back with Rhyno getting the hot tag and hitting a spear to Ryder in the corner. Ryder fought back with a right hand, but Rhyno cut him off with a spine buster for 2 as Rawley broke things up. Slater tagged himself in and tossed out Rawley. Rhyno took out Rawley. Ryder tripped Slater and went for a big boot, but Slater moved. Rhyno was tagged in. Rhyno went for a GORE and hit it on Ryder for the win.

Winners: Rhyno and Heath Slater

The Usos cut a backstage promo about beating down American Alpha earlier in the show. Usos said that the fans have turned on them, and they cheer for American Alpha. Usos said that they are done trying to get respect from the fans.

-Commercial Break-

Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles walk down to the ring. Ambrose showed footage from last week and Styles said it was funny. Ambrose mocked him for his soccer mom haircut. Styles brought up that he beat John Cena and that Ambrose is not Cena. Ambrose said that Styles beat Cena in a wrestling match but at Backlash, he will fight him not wrestle him, and every time they fight, he wins. Ambrose said around here he doesn’t give away second place trophies. Styles kicked him in the nuts and stood tall to close the show.
