WWE SmackDown: Daniel Bryan says goodbye, Roman Reigns retains Universal Title

WWE is hoping for a big rating this week because they headlined this week’s episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown with a Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan. Per the stipulation, Bryan would leave SmackDown if he was not able to win the match.

Reigns got new music for his entrance, something that has been in the works for months but WWE was waiting for the right time to ditch the old music from Reigns’ days in The Shield. Click here to hear the new theme.

Reigns won the match cleanly by making Bryan tap out to the guillotine submission. Bryan is now “barred” from Friday Night SmackDown. Usually, this would mean that he would be likely moving to Raw but it’s also possible that he could move to NXT. Bryan’s contract expires in September so if he’s not moving to another brand, it’s possible that this was WWE’s way to write him off television.

After the match, Cesaro ran in to make the save when Reigns was about to smash Bryan’s head on a steel chair. Jey Uro ran out to take out Cesaro and to tie him in the ropes so Cesaro could watch Reigns attack Bryan with the chair.
