The June 13 edition of Friday Night SmackDown was a historic broadcast for WWE, as the show tied a company record for the most fatal four-way matches held on a single event. The entire show was dedicated to the first-round qualifying matches for the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments.
The show featured four separate fatal four-way matches, a number only reached once before in WWE history. The only other event to feature four such bouts on its card was the WWE Fatal 4-Way pay-per-view back in 2010.
The night’s tournament matches saw four superstars advance to the semi-finals. The results are as follows:
King of the Ring: Cody Rhodes defeated Damian Priest, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Andrade
Queen of the Ring: Alexa Bliss defeated Charlotte Flair, Alba Fyre, and Candice LeRae
Queen of the Ring: Jade Cargill defeated Piper Niven, Nia Jax, and Michin
King of the Ring: Randy Orton defeated LA Knight, Santos Escobar, and Carmelo Hayes
These four winners will now move on to face the Raw qualifiers, Sami Zayn and Roxanne Perez, in the semi-final round. The finals of the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments are scheduled for the Night of Champions premium live event on June 28.
Tonight's #SmackDown has four different Fatal 4-Way matches planned. If they all go off with no changes, it'll set a record.
Never before have their been FOUR Fatal 4-Way matches at a single @WWE event.
The record is/was 3 – held by the PPV named, well… #Fatal4Way, in 2010.
