Ron Killings has declared that his long-running, comedic game of cat-and-mouse with Cody Rhodes is officially over. Speaking on The Wrestling Classic podcast, Killings stated that he and Rhodes have made a “truce” and that he now views them as a potential tag team. He also pitched a unique idea for how Rhodes could finally turn to the dark side.
When asked if he would accept a challenge from Rhodes now that he has adopted a more serious persona, he revealed that their rivalry has come to an end due to a secret, off-screen event.
A Secret Truce
“Me and Cody have made a truce,” Killings stated. “If you interview Cody, you just say, ‘Huh? Truth says you owe him one.’ He’ll know exactly what you’re talking about… he owes me.” When the host questioned the truce, noting that Rhodes seemed intent on getting a win back, Killings cryptically replied, “Suntan Superman to the rescue.” He confirmed that the “game of Tom and Jerry is over” and that from now on, “me and Cody together, we better be tagging.”
The American Truth
Killings then re-affirmed the name he has coined for their potential tag team. When the host, Justin Dhillon, brought up the name, the exchange went as follows:
Justin Dhillon: “Was the American, uh, the American truth. That’s what it was. Oh, the American truth, yes, yeah… You coined it. You call the American truth. That’s what should be happening.”
Ron Killings: “Yes.”
The Origin of “Homelander Cody”
Killings then revealed a fascinating behind-the-scenes conversation he had with Rhodes, where he pitched the ultimate heel turn. He suggested that if Rhodes ever wanted to truly turn the entire world against him, the easiest way would be to betray R-Truth.
“He had a thing of, you know, ‘when the time is right… you get beat up and you tag me and I’ll turn on you,'” Killings recounted telling Rhodes. “I told him, ‘Bro, if you want the world mad at you, turn on me, dog. I dare you.'” The podcast host loved the idea, saying, “Everybody wants Homelander Cody. You’re the origin story.”
The on-screen relationship between R-Truth and Cody Rhodes has been a recurring, fan-favorite storyline for much of the past year. The “truce” and the idea of “The American Truth” tag team could signal a new, more serious chapter in their partnership, while the “Homelander” pitch remains an intriguing “what if” for the future of the Cody Rhodes character.
