It looks like WWE and Matt Hardy were not able to work out a deal to keep him from leaving.
As noted in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Hardy is expected to leave the company in a few weeks. I’ve written before that Hardy and WWE are not far apart on money but Hardy wants to be assured that if he signs another contract (perhaps his final in-ring wrestling contract) then he would like a better creative direction for his character.
Meltzer noted that Hardy offered the idea to have his “Free The Delete” YouTube series to lead to his return with his old “Broken” character but WWE was not interested.
Hardy’s contract is set to expire on March 1st. Jeff’s contract, if he is interested in leaving, is not going to expire on the same day because WWE has added time to his deal for the time he has missed due to injuries and his legal issues.
In recent weeks, Matt has been brought up to Raw to be squashed so it’s clear that they have no plans for him. Matt’s last appearance was in a United States #1 Contendership gauntlet match on the Raw that aired on December 16.
Here is the latest episode of Matt’s “Free The Delete.”
