WWE Star Is Getting Closer To Making In-Ring Return

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio is expected to be at the WWE Performance Center this week as he continues to work towards being medically cleared for a return to the ring. According to a new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider Elite, the legendary wrestler will be at the company’s training facility in Orlando, Florida, a significant step in his recovery process.

Mysterio has been out of action since April 2025, when he suffered a torn groin and a ruptured eardrum, injuries that required surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation period. His presence at the Performance Center is a strong indication that he is in the final stages of his recovery and could be back on WWE television in the near future.

A return for Mysterio would be a major boost for WWE, as the company reportedly has significant plans for him in AAA. A previous report from WrestleVotes Radio indicated that WWE wants to feature Mysterio in a “major role” as part of the AAA crossover. That report also noted that WWE is considering another co-branded AAA streaming event before the end of the year, with Survivor Series weekend in Mysterio’s hometown of San Diego being a heavily speculated possibility. A match for that potential event, as speculated by the hosts of WrestleVotes, could see Rey Mysterio challenge his son, Dominik Mysterio, for the AAA Mega Championship.

Mysterio’s connection to AAA is a foundational part of his legendary career. He was a breakout star for the promotion in the early 1990s, where he, along with other luchadors like Psicosis and Juventud Guerrera, helped to popularize the high-flying style that would eventually take the wrestling world by storm. Even during his long and decorated career in WWE, Mysterio has maintained a connection to his lucha libre roots, and since WWE’s acquisition of AAA, he has made several non-wrestling appearances at major AAA events like Worlds Collide and TripleMania XXXIII.

The first major event of the WWE and AAA partnership, AAA X WWE Worlds Collide 2025, took place on June 7 and was a success. We wish him a speedy recovery.
