WWE star is reverting back to their old gimmick

Butch, formerly known as Pete Dunne, is one of the better technical wrestlers on WWE’s current roster and earned respect from fans for his in-ring abilities while making a name for himself in NXT UK, where he had a lot of success.

WWE made the call to change his name when he was called up to the main roster last year, where he aligned with Sheamus and Ridge Holland in a faction on SmackDown.

They had a strong run throughout the year, including a praised feud with Imperium (Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser, and Giovanni Vinci.

In recent months, WWE has kept The Brawling Brutes off television as Sheamus has aligned with Drew McIntyre. The last TV match that Butch had was on February 3 during SmackDown, where The Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar) defeated The Brawling Brutes. They’ve been working dark matches and bouts at live events since then.

When Triple H took over creative last July, there was speculation Butch could go back under the Pete Dunne gimmick. He did work a SmackDown dark match under the gimmick.

WrestleVotes told GiveMeSport that Butch is set to revert to his old gimmick, something Triple H originally planned to do last year before the Brawling Brutes got over and plans were pushed back. Now, plans are back in place for Butch to return to his character.

“Absolutely, I was told that it’s in the works. When Hunter came back, I was told that Pete Dunne was due to become Pete Dunne, but somebody said, to wait because The Brawling Brutes were catching on. When Pete Dunne returns, it won’t be as a member of the Brawling Brutes. I’m sure he’ll be back by the end of this year.”
