WWE Star Made History With Recent Championship Win

WWE is off to a big start to 2025 with the Raw on Netflix premiere and Tuesday’s NXT New Year’s Evil special that featured two notable title changes.

The show saw Gulia beat Roxanne Perez for the NXT Women’s title in the opening contest. Another big title change was Oba Femi beating Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe in a triple threat match to win the NXT Title. This marks the first time that both stars have held these titles.

Thomas Lowson of SEScoops pointed out a historic milestone that Femi has reached. Femi has become the fifth Black WWE NXT Champion with the win. He follows Big E in 2012, Keith Lee in 2019, Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams in 2022 as stars who have done this. This is in addition to the four black WWE Champions that include The Rock, Kofi Kingston, Bobby Lashley, and Big E.

It’s also worth noting that Femi’s victory marks the second time in WWE history that the NXT title changed hands between two black stars. Femi previously held the North American Title.
