As noted several days ago, Darren Young underwent elbow surgery in Birmingham, Alabama. The injury occurred on a WWE Main Event taping in Little Rock, AR when he landed awkwardly on the ring apron during a match with Epico. The match was stopped immediately once the referee and ringside doctor realized that he was hurt.
We noted at the time that Young would be out of action for several months. Dave Meltzer confirmed in this week’s Wrestling Observer newsletter that he would be out for 6 months so that means he’ll be out until July or August.
It’s a tough break for Young. WWE gave him a decent push last year when they brought in Bob Backlund to play the coach role. Within a few weeks, he disappeared off Raw and was used mostly on live events and Main Event tapings. He wasn’t figured into any significant WrestleMania plans but he would have likely figured into a backstage segment or the Andre The Giant battle royal so he is going to miss out on a nice payday.
