Originally, WWE only had a few matches featuring female talent on the lineup for WrestleMania 37. The most notable bouts were Sasha Banks vs. Bianca Belair for the SmackDown Women’s Title in the headliner of the first night and Rhea Ripley vs. Asuka for the Raw Women’s Championship on the second night.
There was not a women’s battle royal featured on the card. WWE later added a women’s Tag Team Turmoil Match to the first night that served as a way to crown the new #1 contender’s for the Women’s Tag Team Titles.
Natalya and Tamina ended up winning the turmoil match and earned the right to challenge Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler for the straps on the second night. The champions successfully retained the titles.
Fightful Select reported today that Natalya pushed hard for the Tag Team Turmoil Match to be included on WrestleMania because she wanted more women to be featured at the event.
It was added that the original plans called for the turmoil match to be on the go-home WrestleMania edition of SmackDown that was taped over a week prior.
