WWE Star Quietly Underwent Surgery

The Street Profits got involved when WWE Tag Team Champions DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) vs. Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) in a Two Out Of Three Falls Match took place at the Royal Rumble.

It ended when a masked man was on the apron, and then Angelo Dawkins hit Shelley with a crutch. This allowed DIY to hit their finisher on Shelley for the win. Post-match, DIY was attacked by Street Profits. This comes after DIY had attacked Street Profits. Michael Cole explained they did so because they wanted to take the titles from the champions themselves.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted Dawkins had undergone minor knee surgery for a believed torn meniscus a couple of weeks ago, and that’s why he had the crutch.

Meltzer said, “So Angelo Dawkins had minor knee surgery, torn meniscus, I believe, just in the last couple of weeks. So that’s why you had the crutch. And I don’t know that that was ever explained. Was that explained?”

Bryan Alvarez asked, “I don’t think so.”

Meltzer continued, “I don’t remember it in commentary at all. Does anyone know why they like it? The guy’s got a crutch, but that is the reason. And, and the, you know, you know, actually, in the post-show, Big E brought it up, you know, just out of nowhere, just like, oh yeah, he just had knee surgery. So, you know, I think Dawkins had told him, like, earlier that afternoon. So it didn’t even seem like it was something that, like he was supposed to say. It was just something that he kind of said.“
