WWE Star Says He Would Probably Retire If He Faces John Cena

A WWE NXT star set to compete in the “Last Time is Now” tournament says he “would probably retire” with John Cena if he earned the right to face him in his final match. The tournament to determine Cena’s last opponent at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 continues on WWE Raw.

The youngest prospect in the tournament, Je’Von Evans, will face the returning GUNTHER. Despite the tall task ahead of him, Evans is relishing the chance to earn a shot at one of his childhood favorites. In an interview with Yahoo! Sports, he described the opportunity as “insane.”

“I’ve always been a fan of Cena, especially me being younger. He always played to the younger fans. I’m so blessed to be in this position and have this opportunity. There’s a picture of my first WWE event — I’m wearing John Cena’s headband and wrist joints. This is insane.”

Evans acknowledged the difficult road ahead to get to the final match. “I know that the process to get into [Cena’s final match] is going to be trouble, for sure. It’s going to be mountains, it’s going to be speed bumps, but I’m willing to get there. Whatever I need to do, whatever I’ve got to do, whatever helps me get to that match, to have that match with Cena, I’m ready to take all that on.”

If he were to get through the tournament and face Cena, Evans made a bold statement: “Bro, honestly, if that happened, I would probably retire with him. What can I do, man? I had Cena’s last match. You know what, Cena? You have my last match, too.”

The match on Raw will be Evans’ debut on the brand. His “mountainous task” is made even more challenging by the fact that his opponent, “The Ring General” GUNTHER, is making his own return to the ring after being sidelined with a nose injury for the past three months.
