WWE Star Still Sidelined, Return Not “Imminent” Despite Creative Talks

Asuka remains out of action, more than a year after her last appearance in early May 2024 when she and Kairi Sane lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. Fightful Select can confirm that Asuka is “still sidelined.”

When Asuka was initially injured, the internal WWE expectation was that she would likely “miss the rest of 2024, and the 2025 WrestleMania.” Fightful reports that when they asked about Asuka’s status ahead of WrestleMania 41 earlier this year, they were told “there wasn’t serious consideration for her as she was still injured.”

While a return doesn’t appear to be on the immediate horizon, the report indicates that “creative ideas for her eventual return were discussed in recent months.” However, it was also made clear that these discussions did not mean her comeback “wasn’t ‘imminent.'”

In fact, some within WWE were reportedly “surprised that her creative plans were being brought up that early,” given the timeline of her recovery. We wish her a speedy recovery.
