WWE star worked first singles match on PPV with a title on the line since 2014 at Fastlane

Big E has spent the majority of his time on the main roster as a tag team competitor as part of The New Day alongside Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods.

Since last summer, he’s been booked as a singles star. It started out due to injuries sustained by Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston. WWE decided to continue his singles push when they kept him on SmackDown and moved Kingston and Woods to Raw during the 2020 Draft late last year.

Big E successfully defended the WWE Intercontinental Title against Apollo Crews at Sunday’s WWE Fastlane pay-per-view event from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida on the WWE Network.

WWE Stats & Info Twitter account mentioned this was Big E’s first singles match on PPV with a title on the line since Extreme Rules 2014.

“This is @WWEBigE’s first singles match on PPV with a title on the line since Extreme Rules 2014. At that May 2014 event, his first reign as @WWE Intercontinental Champion came to an end at the hands of @StuBennett.”

Another interesting stat was if Crews had won this contest then he would’ve been the 40th wrestler to win the strap and hold the United States Title.
