WWE Star’s Contract Expires Today

A wrestler who is under contract with WWE for a few more hours is about to hit the free agency market, where he is expected to have interest from other companies.

MVP is making his first steps toward entering a post-WWE world. He and Bobby Lashley are slated to leave WWE when their deals expire this month. It’s been reported that the working idea is to try to reform the Hurt Business stable with Shelton Benjamin, possibly in AEW.

MVP previously worked for WWE from 2005–2010, where he was a two-time United States Champion and one-time Tag Team Champion. MVP returned to WWE in 2020 by working the Men’s Royal Rumble Match because he wanted his son to see him wrestle in a WWE ring again. He had a producer tryout before being brought back full-time as a wrestler/manager.

It was previously reported that MVP’s deal was up in the middle of this month. He made headlines over the weekend when he made a surprise appearance at Bloodsport XI following Josh Barnett’s match against Bad Dude Tito. This is where he challenged Barnett to a future match.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that MVP’s official last day of his contract is today (August 2). MVP nor WWE have yet to publicly address his impending departure.
