WWE has locked down a veteran star, as Xavier Woods has reportedly signed a new multi-year extension to remain with the company. According to a new report from Fightful Select, the former King of the Ring winner was in a negotiation period that came “down to the wire,” with a new deal only being finalized in September, the same month his previous contract was set to expire.
The new agreement ensures that a key member of one of the most successful factions in WWE history, The New Day, will be staying with the company for the foreseeable future. The report notes that while all three members of The New Day had signed matching contract extensions in 2019, their current contract situations are not necessarily aligned.
The report did not have any information on the status of Kofi Kingston’s contract, and it was noted that both Woods and Kingston have sustained injuries in recent years that could have potentially added extra time to their existing deals, though this was not confirmed.
WWE has recently reached a contract impasse with several talents who have chosen to leave the company, including Jazmyn Nyx, Killer Kross, and Santos Escobar. However, Xavier Woods and Bronson Reed are two of the recent names who have opted to re-sign. Xavier Woods has been a mainstay of WWE’s tag team division for the better part of a decade as a member of The New Day alongside Kofi Kingston and Big E. The trio are record-setting, 12-time tag team champions.
In addition to his in-ring success, Woods has also been a force in the company’s gaming and digital media endeavors. He is the creator and host of the successful YouTube channel, UpUpDownDown, which is nearing 2.5 million subscribers and has become a major brand in its own right.
