Sami Zayn vs. Finn Balor in a WWE Championship Number One Contender’s Match took place at the WWE SummerSlam Premium Live Event from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. However, before the match, Nick Aldis announced that Gunther and Kevin Owens would be added to the bout.
Owens came out on fire and took out Balor and Gunther before hugging it out with Sami Zayn. They started to exchange hands. Kevin hit a dive off the top rope to the floor to take everyone out. Back in the ring, Owens hit a swanton bomb off the top rope to Balor. The crowd was fully behind Owens throughout it. Balor caught Kevin with a head kick but Owens fired back with a brain buster off the middle rope. Sami went for a quick pin attempt for 2 on Balor. Owens sold his neck and Sami went for a big boot, but Gunther put Sami in a sleeper. Balor with the double foot stomp to Sami for 2 as Gunther broke it up. Gunther went for a sleeper on Balor, but Balor rolled through. Owens with a stunner to Balor and then to Gunther. Sami avoided a stunner and hit a powerbomb to Owens for 2. Moments later, Owens hit Sami with a stunner for the win.
