With just two days to go until the biggest party of the summer, construction on the massive set for WWE SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium has been temporarily halted due to severe weather in the New York and New Jersey area.
Weather Delays SummerSlam Set Construction
According to a report from Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, the area has been hit with travel delays and flood warnings. At approximately 2:15 p.m. ET on Thursday, all construction crew members were brought off the field at MetLife Stadium, and a shelter was put in place as a safety precaution due to the weather.
WWE ‘Not Concerned’ About Completion
Despite the temporary halt in production, WWE sources have indicated that they have “no concerns that the set would be completed in time” for the two-night event this weekend. Photos from the construction area show that a large, multi-tiered stage was already being assembled before the work was paused.
The temporary delay highlights the challenges of producing an event of this magnitude. This year’s SummerSlam is the first-ever to be held over two nights, this Saturday, August 2nd, and Sunday, August 3rd. The premium live event is expected to be one of the biggest in WWE history, headlined by championship matches including Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena and GUNTHER vs. CM Punk.
