WWE Tag Team Quietly Splits Up

The WWE tag team of Grayson Waller and Austin Theory, known as A-Town Down Under, has officially split. The breakup was unceremoniously announced by Grayson Waller during a brief backstage segment on tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw, without his partner, Austin Theory, present for the moment.

The surprising announcement came during a backstage interaction with The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods). Waller interrupted the duo, informing them that Austin Theory was injured and, as a result, their tag team was finished.

“A-Town Down Under Was No More”

In the segment, Waller approached The New Day and casually stated that Theory was injured and was “finally off his back,” before declaring that “A-Town Down Under was no more.” Waller then immediately pivoted, offering his services to Kingston and Woods. The New Day appeared confused by the sudden offer and the unceremonious nature of the breakup announcement but did not outright dismiss Waller before he walked off to supposedly get their car.

The quiet, off-hand nature of the split was a surprising end for a team that had troubles through much of their run but they also had some success.

A-Town Down Under won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship in a six-pack ladder match at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia, marking the first main roster championship for both Waller and Theory.

A Long Teased Split

While the announcement on Raw was abrupt, the dissolution of the team had been teased for months. Tensions between the arrogant duo began to show as far back as February 2024, with frequent on-screen arguments and miscommunications during their matches. The storyline friction continued even after their championship victory at WrestleMania, with many fans speculating that a split was imminent.

The team eventually lost the titles, which were later unified into the new WWE Tag Team Championship, and their storyline disagreements continued. The final breakup, however, happened off-screen, with Theory’s injury being the reason given for the official end of the partnership. It is not yet known if Austin Theory’s injury is legitimate or part of a storyline to facilitate the split. With Waller now seemingly on his own, his attempt to align with The New Day could signal his next direction on the Raw brand.
