If you’ve been watching SmackDown Live and paying any bit of attention to the interactions of Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon, then you’re well aware there could be some tension brewing.
Although it might seem like Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan are going to eventually tangle in the ring, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted this wouldn’t be on the table backstage because D-Bry isn’t cleared to wrestle yet.
Daniel Bryan is scheduled to referee a match in Chicago on December 26th but that was just because since they’re running on Christmas Day and the day after Christmas in the same building, the ticket sales for December 26th’s show needed a boost. It’s still unclear if this match with The Bearded GOAT as a special referee will be a dark match or actually air on television. But let’s just say it here: the match needs to be on television.
If Daniel Bryan is cleared to return, there is talk backstage he could come back at SummerSlam next year and possibly work a limited schedule after that. But all of this is fully dependent on the ruling of Dr. Joseph Maroon because he is WWE’s doctor and the only person who can give official clearance for an in-ring return.
It’s important to note that while Daniel Bryan does have his heart set on wrestling again and has made his intentions clear to jump on the indy scene when his contract is up in October next year, it’s not a sure thing. Because Bryan has also said if he receives another negative test before he starts to wrestle again on his own, he will not be wrestling.
