WWE TLC: Daniel Bryan retains title against AJ Styles, new belt design on the way

The WWE Championship match between Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles was slotted as the third match from the top at this year’s TLC pay-per-view because they wanted the SmackDown Women’s Championship match to close out the show.

Going into this match, Bryan promised to change the design of the WWE Championship belt after his win over Styles and Styles promised that he would wrestle a match and not play into Bryan’s head games.

Bryan was in control for most of the first half of the match. Late in the match, Styles locked in a half crab submission but Bryan was able to reverse into the Lebell lock. Styles rolled out of it and there were a couple of pin attempts. Both men knocked each other out with kicks to the head as fans chanted “this is awesome.”

Styles hit a springboard 450 splash and almost got a pin on Bryan. Styles locked in the Calf Crusher but Bryan was able to turn over into the ropes to break the hold. The fight spilled to ringside, Style shit a Phenomenal Forearm and then the action moved into the ring. Styles went for another forearm but Bryan moved and went for a knee. Styles rolled him up by Bryan reversed it and pinned Styles.
