We got a dream match at the WWE TLC pay-per-view and even though they didn’t have time to build up to it, it felt like a big deal. The fans chanted “this is awesome” before the match began and the announcers said that this would be a one-time-only match put together by Raw GM Kurt Angle and Smackdown Live GM Daniel Bryan.
Here’s a recap of some of the key spots (written in real-time during the match):
Balor hit a suicide dive onto Styles on the outside of the ring. Back in the ring, Balor hit the sling blade and then charged at Styles but Styles countered with a Bushi Hiroshi backbreaker. Balor quickly got back on offense but about a minute later he got trapped in the Calf Crusher. Balor broke out of it by ramming Styles’ head on the ring. Moments later, Styles went for the Phenomenal Forearm but Balor shoved him off the ring apron and then hit Styles with a running kick to the face. Moments later, they both went for a cross body block at the same time and collided. They both got up and then clotheslined each other at the same time. Later, as Balor was going for a top rope move, Styles hit him in the face with a Pele kick. Styles then hit a hurricanrana off the top rope and almost got a pin on Balor. Awesome match so far. Styles went for a 450 splash from the top rope but Balor moved and then hit the shotgun dropkick. Balor hit the double stomp and then pinned Styles. Balor wins.
Awesome stuff and amazing considering that Styles had to have been drained from that long trip from South America. After the match, they stood up and did the “Too Sweet” hand gesture.
