WWE TLC results: Kurt Angle returns to the ring, Braun Strowman and Kane turn on each other

The big story of the WWE TLC pay-per-view was the return of former WWE Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle. Given the circumstances, you have to give credit for doing everything possible to make sure that the fans got suitable replacements and you could argue that the show was probably better off with Angle and AJ Styles as replacements.

I will recap some of the key moments from the match but bear with me because this was written in real-time during the match:

Angle didn’t get his traditional entrance. Instead, he came out to The Shield music with a vest on and through the crowd with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. The match started out with Angle, Rollins, and Ambrose cleaning house by hitting everyone with chair shots as everyone in the crowd went nuts. They had tables, ladders, and chairs everywhere around ringside. The Shield dominated at ringside for the first 10 minutes or so. They set up Kane and Strowman on announcers tables at ringside and Rollins/Ambrose jumped on top of them as the tables broke. Angle was left alone because of that spot and that allowed Sheamus, Cesaro, and Miz to take advantage. Then, out of nowhere, Kurt exploded and hit a bunch of German suplexes and cleared the ring. Kane got in the ring and blocked a German suplex and then went for a chokeslam but Kurt turned it into an ankle lock. Strowman broke it up and shoved Angle into the barricade at ringside. Strowman then hit a running powerslam on Kurt through a table at ringside. Referees and trainers went over to check on him. The announcers mentioned Angle’s neck issues and said that he’s out of the match and will probably have to go to the hospital. The trainers took him to the backstage area so it’s essentially a 5 vs. 2 match. Booker T said that Kurt should have known better because everyone knows about his neck, back and knee issues. Obviously, Kurt was just selling and the idea was for him to come back into the match as the old Kurt. Ambrose and Rollins did their best to fight off all 5 guys but the odds were too much for the next few minutes. That was until Kane accidentally hit Strowman with a chair to his back. The heels lost focus and that allowed Ambrose and Rollins to get some brief offense but the heels took over again.

Sheamus and Cesaro powerbombed Ambrose through a table but it didn’t break so Strowman improvised and put the table in the corner of the ring and then shoved Ambrose through it. Miz called for the garbage truck like he promised earlier. They tossed Ambrose and Rollins into the truck but they fought back and jumped off the truck onto Miz’ team next to the stage area. Ambrose and Rollins chased Miz to the ringside area and he was outnumbered because the rest of his team was knocked out near the stage area. Kane had enough and attacked Strowman and then chokeslammed him through the stage by the Raw announcer’s table. Kane wasn’t done though because he decided to yank on a chair and that caused several other chairs that were hanging above to fall on Strowman. Kane then proceeded to chokeslam Ambrose and Rollins through tables on the stage area. Ambrose landed badly and cut his arm on that bump. Stowman got back up and took out Miz, Sheamus and Cesaro so he could get to Kane. All four of them attacked Strowman and dumped him in the back of the garbage truck. The guy pulled the compactor lever with Strowman in it and then drove off. Now, the focus was back on Rollins and Ambrose back in the ring.  Cole, in an attempt to sell the seriousness of what happened to Strowman, said that is is completely beyond sports entertainment.

Kurt Angle’s theme played and he walked back out to the ring. Angle hit a pair on Angle slam’s on Sheamus and Cesaro at ringside. Angle, looking like the old Kurt Angle, went after Kane but things were reversed and Kane went for a tombstone. Thankfully, Rollins hit Kane with a chair to the back and both Ambrose and Rollins speared Kane through the barricade at ringside. Miz hit the skull crushing finale on Angle but he kicked out. Miz tried it again but Angle reversed it into the ankle lock but Miz shoved him out of the ring. Miz was alone in the ring with Angle, Rollins, and Ambrose. Miz was hit with knees to the face and then the triple powerbomb. Angle got the pin.
