It’s been 2 weeks since the draft but there are still questions that need to be answered. We’ve been wondering if they would create a women’s title for the Smackdown brand since the women, as of now, don’t have anything to compete for. On Tuesday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that there are plans for a women’s title to be created for the Smackdown brand. I guess that means that they’ve changed course on what they originally had planned because a few weeks ago there was talk of having the women’s champion wrestle on both brands.
Also, there are plans to create a new tag team title for the Smackdown brand. There is no word on what they will call these new titles. It makes sense to create a women’s title and tag team title especially since they will start doing brand-specific pay-per-views in September.
The women’s roster on Smackdown consists of Alexa Bliss, Becky Lynch, Carmella, Eva Marie, Naomi and Natalya. Lynch is being positioned as the top female wrestler on the roster. American Alpha is the top team on Smackdown but they are in desperate need of more teams on that brand with The Dudley Boyz, The Ascension and The Vaudevillains rounding out the list of teams on the Smackdown brand.
