Although The New Day is still technically a group as Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston represent the faction as a tag team while Big E is a singles star, all of the members are not on the same brand.
WWE separated the group during last year’s Draft as Big E stayed on SmackDown while Kingston and Woods went to Raw. When Big E cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to win the WWE Title from Bobby Lashley earlier this year, the group was back on the same brand for a short period of time.
However, during this year’s Draft, Big E stayed on Raw while Woods and Kingston went to SmackDown. While doing an interview with TalkSport, Big E noted that WWE gave them a heads up about the separation.
“We got some heads up so we knew it was coming, and I wasn’t shocked. I was hoping, though, that we’d be on the same brand and they could have done their own thing and I could have done mine.
“It’s always disappointing. I will say, I think the last year of being on SmackDown while they were on Raw did help me grow as a wrestler and a performer. There are some benefits, but really I’m just trying to find the silver lining of it all – it still sucks.”
He continued by stating that at the same time, he doesn’t want to be standing in front of them growing or making them his cheerleaders at ringside because he doesn’t think that would be best for them. Instead, they’re just trying to make the best of it.
