This past Saturday’s WWE Royal Rumble was not only a big show for the on-screen product of the company as it starts the road to WrestleMania but also for business. WWE gave some business metrics to the Sports Business Journal to tout the success of the show.
The event drew a sellout crowd of 44,390 from The Dome at America’s Center in St Louis, Missouri, which marks the second-most-attended WWE event since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year’s SummerSlam event at Allegiant Stadium holds the record.
WWE also had its second-highest gate in the 35-year history of the Royal Rumble. Regarding merchandise sales, this show delivered a record amount of sales in the history of the Royal Rumble.
The best sellers from the show came from the event-specific apparel as well as Bad Bunny, Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, and Ronda Rousey.
WWE had various surprises take place at the show including the return of Rousey as she won the Women’s Royal Rumble match. After dropping the WWE Title earlier in the night to Bobby Lashley, Lesnar ended up winning the 2022 Men’s Royal Rumble match.
