It was reported months ago that WWE wanted to make this year’s SummerSlam just as worthy as WrestleMania. They have done just that by holding it in a stadium as well as bringing back bigger names such as Goldberg and John Cena.
PWinsider.com reported today that WWE tried to bring in Mike Tyson to take part in this weekend’s Summerslam. Per the report, WWE planned to have the Celebrity Hall of Famer and boxing legend be the voiceover artist for the opening video package of the show, which is being built around WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns defending the title against Cena.
Despite WWE’s best attempts, they couldn’t lock Tyson into doing this. It’s unclear who will take his place. WWE had Johnny Depp do the voiceover work for the WrestleMania 36 and WrestleMania 37 video packages.
In recent years, Tyson has made appearances for AEW as he grew up as a big pro wrestling fan. Tyson most notably got to be the special outside enforcer for the Steve Austin vs. Shawn Michaels match at WrestleMania 14.
