WWE Universal Championship match officially announced for SummerSlam

This week’s episode of WWE Monday Night Raw kicked off with General Manager Kurt Angle and he was adamant that Brock Lesnar would need to show up or he would be stripped of the Universal Championship.

Paul Heyman walked out to the ring and pleaded the case for his advocate. He suggested that Angle would want to keep Lesnar as champion because Lesnar could end up being a dual champion if he defeats Daniel Cormier for the UFC Heavyweight Championship next year. However, Angle did not want to hear any of that.

Heyman confirmed that his client will defend the title at SummerSlam. Of course, this is not news to most you reading this because we noted last week (via Dave Meltzer) that Lesnar has been confirmed for the show and he is also confirmed for the Raw after SummerSlam that also takes place at the Barclays Center.

Fans will have to wait until next week to find out who will be Lesnar’s challenger. Angle set up two Triple Threat matches for this week’s show. The first one (Drew McIntyre vs. Roman Reigns vs. Finn Balor) was won by Reigns. The second one (Bobby Lashley vs. Elias vs. Seth Rollins) was won by Lashley which means that Lashley vs. Reigns will take place next week to determine Lesnar’s challenger.

The other match announced for SummerSlam is the Raw Women’s Championship match featuring Alexa Bliss defending against Ronda Rousey.
