WWE updates on Kurt Angle, Goldberg, Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio

Over the last several days there have been some rumors going around about former names being asked to return to the company. The names that are confirmed to have had contact from WWE, per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, are Carlito, Stevie Richards, and MVP. Meltzer noted that those names are just the tip of the iceberg and several others have been contacted.

There was a Forbes article over the weekend claiming that names like Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, Kurt Angle and Bill Goldberg were all contacted about coming back to help fill out the Raw and Smackdown rosters. Somehow, some people turned that article around and attributed those names to Dave Meltzer. The only names that Meltzer mentioned were Carlito, Richards, and MVP.

In regards to Matt and Jeff Hardy, we are told that they are under contract to TNA so WWE would not be able to legally talk with them. TNA has been looking to get them signed under new deals that would allow them to control their outside bookings. Also, Matt Hardy has said in the past that he would not want to work a full-time schedule because of the wear and tear on his body.

Rey Mysterio's deal with Lucha Underground has him locked up for at least another season so he would not be free to talk with WWE unless there is a breach or if Lucha Underground gets canceled.

As he noted on Mark Madden's radio show/podcast, Kurt Angle did talk with WWE but that was 6-7 weeks ago and that was long before they made the announcement about the brand split. Angle says that he has not been contacted about coming in for the brand split. For more on what Angle said, click here. Also, there is zero chance of Angle working a full-time in-ring schedule again.

Lastly, it would cost a ton of money for them to sign Bill Goldberg and it's highly unlikely that he would be signed to a full-time deal. It's no secret that Goldberg has expressed interest in wrestling a match at WrestleMania. Keep in mind, that the names that WWE are talking to are also wanted so that they can also go on the road at live events.

On this morning's Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that many of the names rumored (from the Forbes article) have not been contacted but there are a lot of names that have not gotten out yet and some of those names would surprise you.
