WWE was not happy about MLW getting trademark rights to War Games

As we first reported over the weekend, WWE has been trademarking a bunch of old WCW show names. It was unclear at the time why they were doing this but more details have come out in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Dave Meltzer noted that the reason for the recent trademarks is because they were not happy about MLW trademarking War Games and their ability to use the term.

WWE has filed trademarks for the following:

WCW Thunder
NWO New World Order
All Star Wrestling
WCW Monday Nitro
World Championship Wrestling
Halloween Havoc
Fall Brawl

In August, they filed for the “ECW” trademark.

WWE has also tried to go after some MLW talent in recent months but many of them are locked into long-term deals. MLW has solid financial backing that will allow them to keep certain names under contract for a while.
