This past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw wasn’t like the typical post-WrestleMania episode of the flagship show for the company for many reasons including no fans being in attendance.
It also turns out the show didn’t go as originally planned and it comes down to the company being short-handed.
Fightful Select reported today the match between Matt Riddle and WWE Champion Bobby Lashley wasn’t in the original script for the show. WWE booked the match as there were more wrestlers banged up or not cleared after WrestleMania than normal.
A couple of wrestlers being sidelined was precautionary due to COVID-19 symptoms. It wasn’t mentioned whether these stars actually tested positive for COVID. Thus, the brand “was just short-handed in general.”
Riddle lost the United States Title to Sheamus at WrestleMania 37 while Lashley successfully retained the WWE Title over Drew McIntyre.
WWE hasn’t confirmed just yet whether a rematch between Riddle and Sheamus will take place at WrestleMania Backlash. However, they have confirmed a second match between Lashley and McIntyre with the gold on the line will take place at this event next month.
