WWE Website Accidentally Spoils Big Storyline

WWE’s own website accidentally spoiled a storyline development from this past weekend’s NXT No Mercy premium live event. During the NXT Women’s Championship match between champion Jacy Jayne and challenger Lola Vice, a masked person interfered, attacking Vice and allowing Jayne to retain her title.

While the identity of the attacker was not revealed on the broadcast, the official WWE.com recap of the event initially stated in its first sentence that Jayne had received help from Lainey Reid, directly confirming her as the person under the hood. The line was later edited, but not before the spoiler had been widely circulated online, confirming a new alliance in the NXT women’s division.

The original line in the WWE.com article read, “Jacy Jayne retained the NXT Women’s Championship thanks to a shocking assist from Lainey Reid.” The sentence was later changed to the more ambiguous, “Jacy Jayne is still the NXT Women’s Champion, but not without some controversy.” The storyline heading into the show had seen Lainey Reid, who was originally scheduled to challenge Sol Ruca for the WWE Speed Women’s Championship, sidelined with a storyline injury.

Later in the night, she appeared in a walking boot and was confronted by Lola Vice, setting up a potential future conflict between the two. The interference in the title match now confirms that Reid’s injury was a ruse and that she has officially aligned herself with Jacy Jayne.

The match itself saw Lola Vice come within seconds of winning the championship. After a flurry of offense, Vice had Jayne down for the count, but her pinfall was broken up when Jayne’s former stablemate, Fallon Henley, pulled the referee out of the ring, leading to Henley’s ejection from ringside. The finish came when the masked attacker, now confirmed to be Lainey Reid, appeared and hit Vice with a running knee strike at ringside. This allowed Jayne to hit her “Rolling Encore” finisher for the victory.

Jayne’s faction, Fatal Influence, recently imploded when she and Fallon Henley kicked out their third member, Jazmyn Nyx, who has since departed from WWE. The fallout from the angle is expected to be addressed this week on NXT.
