WWE Is Working On Surprises For Saturday Night’s Main Event

WWE is reportedly working on surprises for this weekend’s Saturday Night’s Main Event, which will emanate from the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The event, scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025, is built around John Cena’s final wrestling match, a historic retirement bout against Gunther.

According to PWInsider, WWE sources have indicated that the company is actively planning “some surprises” for the show, though specific details remain unconfirmed. WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is advertised to appear, and reports suggest that WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk is also slated to be there.

TNA Talent And Special Memorabilia

There was talk at this week’s WWE NXT taping that popular TNA star Joe Hendry could be in Washington, D.C. for the event. Reports indicate there is also chatter about at least one additional TNA talent potentially being present beyond Leon Slater, who is already confirmed for the tag team title match.

Additionally, several other talents are expected to be in the area for promotional and outreach appearances, which could fill the backstage area with names not scheduled to compete on the main card. Sources also state that at least one WWE licensee is preparing to release special memorabilia in conjunction with Cena’s retirement match this weekend. The event will stream live on Peacock in the United States and on Netflix internationally, with a start time of 8 p.m. ET.

The card features a mix of main roster stars and talent from NXT and TNA Wrestling. In addition to Cena vs. Gunther, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes will face NXT Champion Oba Femi in a Champion vs. Champion match. The World Tag Team Championships will also be on the line as AJ Styles and Dragon Lee defend against the high-flying team of NXT’s Je’Von Evans and TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater.
