WWE WrestleMania 36 (Night One) results: live coverage

WWE WrestleMania 36 (Night One)
April 4, 2020 (matches taped last week)
WWE Performance Center
Orlando, Florida

We are live with ongoing coverage of WWE WrestleMania 36 (Night One). The matches were taped over a week ago at the Performance Center.

The Kickoff show was hosted in the WWE Studios by Corey Graves and Peter Rosenberg.

Kickoff Show (Night One)

Cesaro vs. Drew Gulak
They worked hard and it was a good match but sadly, nothing feels like a big deal because of the environment. The show feels just like the last couple of weeks of Raw and SmackDown. The only difference is the WrestleMania logo on the video screens. Cesaro pinned Gulak after an airplane spin with no hands.

Kayla Braxton interviewed King Corbin. He played a song on the harmonica and said he’s willing to take a forfeit victory.

Main Card (Night One)

WrestleMania host Rob Gronkowski kicked off the show. He was joined by Mojo Rawley. Michael Cole and JBL were on commentary.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
The Kabuki Warriors (Champions) vs. Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross
Despite the circumstances, they all worked hard and it was a good match. Late in the match, Asuka was able to lock in the Asuka Lock on Cross but Bliss broke it up by hitting Twisted Bliss on Asuka’s back. The finish was Bliss hitting Twisted Bliss on Sane to win the titles.

Kayla Braxton interviewed Sami Zayn, commercials and then they showed Shayna Baszler warming up backstage.

Elias vs. King Corbin
Corbin thought he would get a forfeit win but he was wrong because Elias showed up for the match with tape on his shoulder. Elias pinned Corbin with a handful of tights. Michael Cole said Rob Gronkowski is probably happy about the match result since he made the match.

WWE Raw Women’s Championship
Becky Lynch (Champion) vs. Shayna Baszler
Becky arrived at the Performance Center in the same truck that was shown on Raw a couple of weeks ago. The match started with both women trading hard body punches. Baszler briefly locked in the Kirafuta Clutch but Lynch slipped out of it. The finish was Baszler getting the Kirafuta Clutch but Becky countered and managed to get Shayna on her back for the pin to retain the title

WWE Intercontinental Championship
Sami Zayn (Champion) vs. Daniel Bryan
Sami did everything to avoid Bryan in the first few minutes of the match. Zayn was able to retain the title after hitting a version of the heluva kick and he had help from Nakamura and Cesaro.

WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship – Triple Threat Ladder Match
John Morrison (Tag Team Champion) vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Jimmy Uso
They started the match at a fast pace and three ladders were brought into the ring during the first minute of the match. This match had everything you would expect with tons of crazy ladder spots. The match was very good but obviously, the lack of crowd atmosphere took everything on this show down a notch.

The finish involved all three men attempting to grab the belts while standing on two ladders in the ring. All three men grabbed the belts at the same time and Morrison was knocked off with the titles in his hands. So, Morrison and Miz are still champs. Weird ending.

Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins
Owens and Rollins did not hold back and it seemed like all the spots in this match would have been done in front of a packed stadium in Tampa. They were having a really good match but it ended when Rollins hit Owens with the ring bell at ringside. Owens won via DQ but he didn’t want the match to end that way.

Owens grabbed the microphone and demanded to finish the match under with No DQ and no rules. The ref restarted the match as Owens requested. Rollins attacked Owens with a chair at ringside but Owens was able to grab the bell and he nailed Rollins with it over the head. It sounded like sound effects were added for the bell shots. Owens then climbed up to the WrestleMania sign and crashed onto Rollins through the announcer’s table. Owens brought Rollins into the ring and then hit the Stunner. He pinned Rollins to win the match.

R-Truth joined Gronk and Mojo on the podium. Gronk tried to pin Truth but he was pulled off by Mojo, who ended up winning the title. Gronk didn’t look happy. Looks like Gronk will win it tomorrow.

Charly Caruso interviewed Paul Heyman about tomorrow’s WWE Championship match.

WWE Universal Championship
Goldberg (Champion) vs. Braun Strowman
Goldberg hit a spear about 10 seconds into the match. He hit two more spears immediately and then covered Strowman but Strowman kicked out. Goldberg hit a fourth spear and then he attempted the jackhammer but Strowman countered into a powerslam. Strowman hit three more powerslams and pinned Goldberg to win the title.

Boneyard Match
The Undertaker vs. AJ Styles
This was basically a Graveyard match under another name. A hearse drove up with Taker’s theme playing but Styles popped out of it and he said he was ready for Taker. The “American Bad Ass” version of The Undertaker arrived to the boneyard on a motorcycle. Styles said he had already dug Taker’s grave.

Taker got the first punches in. This was shot like a movie with sound effects. Taker cut his arm open when Styles moved out of the way and the arm broke the glass on the hearse. Taker tossed Styles on top of the windshield of the hearse. Styles finally turned the table after a few minutes with the low blow on Taker. Taker fought back and Styles fell into the grave but Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson appeared as music played in the background.

A bunch of guys dressed as druids appeared out of a shed and surrounded Taker but Taker was able to take them out one by one until Gallows and Anderson attacked. They were going to use a shovel but Taker broke free and fought back and he used the shovel but AJ appeared and smashed a cinder block on Taker. Styles then charged at Taker and ran him through one of the walls of the shed like a barricade spot that WWE does all the time. Styles smashed a shovel over Taker’s back and Taker fell into the grave.

Styles was about to use a bulldozer to fill in the grave but Taker popped up behind him and attacked him with several punches. Styles climbed up on top of the shed but Taker followed him up. Taker used his magic to create fire to catch Styles off guard. Taker fought him off along sith Gallows and Anderson. Taker chokeslammed Styles off the top of the shed. Styles apologized and begged not to be buried. Taker hugged him and praised him for fighting so hard and then he kicked him in the face into the grave. Taker got into the bulldozer and pushed dirt onto the grave to bury Styles. A tombnstone for Styles was shown and then Taker got on his motorcycle to leave the area as the show ended.
